College Essay
Mentoring Program

MentorMe is a volunteer program that helps low-income high-school seniors of color with their college essays.

The essay portion is one of the most important pieces for college applications and it is the best way to show colleges what makes you unique. Students will be paired with a volunteer mentor and have weekly one-on-one sessions to draft, edit, and revise essays.

For High-School Students

Students will meet with their assigned mentor weekly for one-on-one meetings to draft, edit, and revise essays for their college applications. These meetings will be set up with your mentor based on your availability.

A syllabus of weekly assigned topics/short assignments for the student will be provided. These topics will cover college essay questions that require pulling from your personal experiences.

For Mentors

Mentors will hold weekly one-on-one meetings with their assigned student to draft, edit, and revise essays for their college applications.

A syllabus of weekly assigned topics/assignments for the student will be provided and serve as a guide for mentors. These topics will cover college essay questions, identities, adversity, and more.

We encourage BIPOC and individuals from low-income backgrounds to apply. This is a volunteer position and you will not be compensated.

This program has a flexible schedule. You will work with the student to find a time that works best to meet virtually. Mentors are expected to attend monthly meetings for check-ins. These meetings will be scheduled ahead of time based on your availability.

Morgan's Story

In fall of 2020, Morgan joined the MentorMe program to help make her Common Application essay stand out. Her mentor worked with her to personalize her essay and better illustrate her life experiences and aspirations.

She and her mentor squeezed in her final drafts just before the deadline. A few months later, she notified us that she had been accepted into her dream school, the University of California, Berkeley!

Congratulations Morgan!
